Rooted Living was founded by Rachel Domb with the mission of changing the way we snack. Their delicious granola has no additive ingredients, and is packaged in compostable pouches. Our team reimagined the brand to create a completely new package design, as well as additional website features.

Getting started
With the help of several collaborative brand exercises, we got to know more about Rooted Living: the voice, message, and mission. After we envisioned what we wanted the brand to become, it was all about figuring out how to translate that into the design.
Design Strategy
The team then jumped into strategizing. First, we created mood boards to help us refine our visual approach. From there we began to formally develop the design strategy, which would be the backbone of all our work moving forward. Some of the changes we made to the existing guidelines included an updated color palette, and the incorporation of the typeface Mabry Pro.
Packaging
With our strategy completed, we began work on the biggest part of our project: the packaging design. We started with low fidelity wireframes to correctly work out the placement of everything and ensure that we were properly highlighting the features that set Rooted Living apart. In collaboration with Scout’s Photo Team, we created a wide array of visual assets to use both in the packaging and our web design. In the following weeks, as we began to develop our design, we realized it was not fulfilling all the goals we had set, so we pivoted. Adopting a completely different layout, we reworked our design and created something eye-catching that conveyed how special Rooted Living really is.
As the last phase of the project, our team worked on two new pages for the Rooted Living website: a how-to-compost guide and a store locator. These incorporated brand new illustrations and reflected the refreshed brand guidelines.
